Speech/Language Pathology
The SLP department at TLC Lubbock focuses on improving speech, language, and cognitive skills, including attention, memory, and problem-solving, which are needed during activities of daily living (ADL). Reading, writing, and social skills are also addressed. Our certified speech-language pathologists are able to evaluate and treat these areas as related to the patient’s functional goal of returning to work or school.
The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) department utilizes individual and small group sessions to evaluate and treat patients. Treatment sessions focus on community re-integration, allowing the therapists to asses the patient’s functional communication skills in a variety of real-life situations. Certified speech-language pathologists work in a transdisciplinary manner with other TLC Lubbock therapists to ensure functional carryover of targeted goals.
The SLP department strives to improve and develop strategies to improve and maintain a patient’s cognitive-linguistic functioning. Implementation of strategies to improve a patient’s cognitive functioning are utilized to help “bridge the gap” between the patient’s present level of functioning and the desired functional outcome.
